Rimac the Croatian electric vehicle (EV) company,

Rimac, that started in a garage and grew into a supercar powerhouse, has once again pushed the boundaries with its latest creation: the Nevera R. This all-electric hypercar was revealed at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering during Monterey Car Week, and it’s set to redefine performance standards.

A Powerhouse on Wheels

The Nevera R is an upgrade to its predecessor, the Nevera, which was already a record-breaking supercar. The new model boasts an astounding 2,107 horsepower and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 1.74 seconds. It has a top speed of 217 mph, and when tested under Rimac’s oversight, it can even reach 256 mph. These numbers make it one of the most powerful and fastest electric hypercars ever made.

Design Meets Performance

The “R” in Nevera R stands for radical, rebellious, and relentless—traits that are reflected in its design and performance. The car features larger rear wheels, a low front nose, a high rear-fixed wing, and a carbon fiber structure, all contributing to its aggressive and aerodynamic appearance.

But the Nevera R isn’t just about raw power. It’s equipped with advanced technology designed for precision cornering. The car features four electric motors, advanced ceramic brakes, a new 108-kilowatt-hour battery pack, new Michelin Pilot Cup tires, and all-wheel torque vectoring. According to Mate Rimac, the company’s founder and CEO, “Nobody missed power in the Nevera, but we decided to squeeze a little bit more out that we knew we could still get out of the car. And, of course, give it a more aggressive, even more interesting design than before.”

Rimac will produce only 40 units of the Nevera R, each with a starting price of €2.3 million (around $2.5 million). For comparison, the original Nevera produced 1,914 horsepower, could accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 1.85 seconds, and had a top speed of 258 mph. When it was launched in 2022, it was the fastest production car in the world.

From Garage to Global Player

Rimac Automobili was founded in 2009 by Mate Rimac, who was just 21 years old at the time. By 2011, the company launched its first all-electric hypercar, the Concept One, followed by the Concept Two, which eventually evolved into the Nevera.

By 2021, Rimac had grown into a unicorn startup and launched a technology subsidiary that supplies advanced EV components to automakers like Hyundai and Porsche. That same year, Rimac announced a merger with Bugatti, the iconic French supercar maker. Today, Bugatti-Rimac is a joint venture, with Rimac Group holding the majority stake and Porsche owning 45%. Rimac Group, still led by Mate Rimac, also includes Rimac Technology and Verne, a new robotaxi business. [techCrunch]
